On Thursday, November 21, 2024, FashionAFRICANA hosted its 2nd Annual AFRICANISM Gala at the FashionAFRICANA Studio at Ice House Studios in Pittsburgh, PA. With the powerful theme WELCOME HOME—inspired by the Ghanaian word “Akwaaba,” which means welcome—the evening was a radiant celebration of African heritage, honoring Black creativity through fashion, art, music, and community spirit.

A highlight of the night was the presentation of the AFRICANA Icon Award to Tony Award-winning Broadway director Kenny Leon, recognizing his extraordinary contributions to the arts and his commitment to elevating Black stories on the global stage.

The AFRICANISM Gala brought together artists, visionaries, and cultural changemakers from around the world in an immersive experience that beautifully reflected the richness and diversity of the African diaspora. Guests were welcomed into a sacred space of beauty, rhythm, and connection, where design, music, and performance came alive under one roof.
